washing the beans - there is water running down the channels

Lovely young DR girl trying to explain to us in Spanish and hand signals with our non existent Spanish!!! I just kept saying si si (yes yes) and making a story up in my mind as to what I thought she was saying- which may or may not bear any relation to the actual facts she was telling us - but I really enjoyed the tour and if my interpretation of the process of making coffee is not all that accurate it doesn't matter - we had fun!! And the coffee was divine!!

Roasted and delicious - by the time I left there I was well and truly buzzed!! I had eaten lots of the roasted beans then couldn't resist the unlimited free coffee at the shop at the end of the tour- I had at least 6 small cups of black coffee!!!

Mark with the old machine that was used to shell the beans

Mark and Christine feeding the pigeons at the old town of Santo Domingo. Mark was such a lovely well behaved little boy he was a pleasure to have around

Monument to the indigenous people - there are none surviving!

Church in Old town Santo Domingo

Busker's serenading us while we had a much needed cold drink!

The Botanical gardens were a lovely surprise - they were huge and lovely.

In the botanical gardens they had an amazing display from the orchid growing society - just beautiful!!

We were a bit sorry to move on so quickly but with hurricane season approaching, and guests arriving with still quite a ways to go, we had to keep going. We did feel there was so much of DR that we hadn't explored though!! We had only scratched the surface!!
